I am interested in how literary language transcends the distinction between the verbal and the visual.

Many of the images we remember have no physical existence. They are evoked by literary texts in which language becomes, in a sense, a visual medium. These complex images exist only in the reader’s mind; the text is their only material support.

For the most part, I draw the text in a size and format that might be found in a book. The conjured image is the subject of the drawing.
